Ten pigs is the scale most Filipino backyard raisers actually start with. Big enough that the cost stings if you get it wrong, small enough that you can do all the work yourself with help from family. The figures below assume commercial-hybrid weaners bought at 12 kg, 100% commercial feeds (starter, grower, finisher) at ₱1,775 a sack, and a 160-day grow-out to 95 kg liveweight.
The biggest variable is not the feed price. It is the mortality rate. In my experience, first-time raisers lose 1-2 pigs out of 10 to scours, heatstroke, or rookie injection mistakes. The calculator rounds survivors down, so 5% on 10 pigs already means one dead pig, 9 sold. That is the 10% I would tell a first-timer to plan for anyway.
The second-biggest variable is what you actually sell at, and in 2026 that is genuinely unclear. PSA's newest backyard farmgate reading is ₱172.62/kg for Jun 2026. The DA said farmgate fell to ₱150/kg in August 2026 (The Manila Times, 28 Sep 2026). The two disagree, PSA has not yet published a month after June, and I do not average them: every figure below is shown at both. At the PSA price this batch ends with a profit of ₱27,147; at the DA's, a profit of ₱7,807. Run the calculator at both ends before you commit.

9 pigs reach market. Against ₱120,443 of cost that leaves a profit of ₱27,147 at the PSA price (₱2,715 per pig started) and a profit of ₱7,807 at the DA's (₱781 per pig).
What this leaves out
- ⚠ Per-head profit figures you see quoted usually assume you do not pay yourself for labour. If you cost in your own time at minimum wage, the profit shrinks significantly.
