A first-time raiser with 10 commercial-hybrid piglets, 100% commercial feeds, and a small pen behind the house. This is the most common starter scenario in the Philippines, and the one most likely to go wrong.

You are working abroad, your kuya or pamangkin is on the ground, and you are wiring capital for 20 pigs. The math from the 10-pig backyard scenario does not transfer cleanly. Absentee management raises mortality, adds a worker salary, and introduces information lag that costs real money.

Fifty heads is where pig farming starts looking like a business instead of a hobby. You hire a full-time caretaker, you negotiate feed direct, you can afford biosecurity that brings mortality below 4%, and the per-head profit reflects all of that.

Every scenario uses 2026 Philippine peso figures. Feed prices come from current retail and direct-dealer ranges. Weaner prices reflect what multiplier farms in Luzon and Visayas were quoting as of May 2026. Mortality assumptions are deliberately honest — higher than DA promotional materials, lower than worst-case ASF zones — and we say what the assumption is on each page.
