Pig Weight Estimator

A tape measure and a published formula. You get a range, not a number, because that is what an estimate is — and the range is what stops a buyer's scale surprising you.

What kind of pig?

It matters. A native pig is shorter and rounder, and the standard formula overestimates one by 15-20%.

Around the body directly BEHIND the front legs, at the narrowest part of the chest. Over the legs adds 5-8 cm.

Base of the ears to the base of the tail, along the back. Adds a cross-check.

Puts the estimate's error band into pesos, which is the only form in which it means anything at the scales.

Measure three times and average. A 2 cm error on the girth is a 3 to 4 kg error on the weight, and pigs do not stand still — measure while she is eating. Under about 20 kg, skip the tape entirely: a ₱200 hanging scale from any hardware store beats every formula on this page at that size. Read full disclaimer .
